If two characters who are currently avoiding each other or fighting step into an office elevator together, you already know the cables are giving out on the 14th floor. The lights flick off, the emergency brake engages with a massive shudder, and suddenly the MC is having a claustrophobia attack while the ML has no choice but to pin him against the handrail to "keep him calm." It is the most shamelessly staged plot device in existence, yet it works on me every single time.
