Synopsis
The story follows Yoonseok, an initially kind and righteous detective whose life shatters after his partner is brutally murdered. When the justice system fails and the killer walks free, Yoonseok takes vigilante justice into his own hands. This act spirals him down a dark path where he is blackmailed and used as a disposable pawn by a corrupt prosecutor. To gather underground intel from dangerous criminals, Yoonseok is forced into highly exploitative and degrading situations, leaving him an emotionally hollow husk of a man who actively longs for death.
Everything shifts when Yoonseok is assigned to investigate Baek Gitae, a notoriously dangerous, platinum-haired gangster. Gitae is a powerful, calculated, and terrifying figure who doesn’t care about standard criminal motivations like power or simple revenge; instead, he genuinely thrives on breaking people psychologically. When the two collide, Gitae’s extreme sadism triggers a complex, toxic psychological reaction within Yoonseok. Rather than pulling away, Yoonseok finds himself deeply entangled in Gitae's violent aggression—forcing him to question whether he is using this dangerous relationship as a destructive escape from his grief, or if he is genuinely beginning to crave it.
Why Should We Pick This Up?
I personally feel like June Noir represents the state of depression, with unresolved past trauma, and the state of being emotionless, quite accurately, especially when u are in yoonseok’s line of work. in most of the mangas i read, the mc, in the line of work of a detective is usually much more petite, never learn from their mistakes, and genuinly makes me feel like they are not cut out for this work. june noir is literally the very opposite of that, and has a kind of dark charm that just has me going back for it again and again. all in all, i think that a lot of people will like reading this.
